There is a definite smell of autumn in the air here, although it's still warm enough for pottering in the garden.
I usually do my sowing of seeds in the spring but this year have decided to sow now.
The idea being I will have stockier plants which flower early and can survive the snails, hence why I'm trying, again, with Lupins. I love these plants but then so do the snails.
My Roses have come back for a second showing and the rose 'Sombreiul' is even lovelier this time of year. With it is blue Campanula, Verbena, Veronica and a lovely peach coloured Verbascom.

ReplyDeleteHow lovely it is that you have so much to show now, as the season draws to a close, in the way of summer flowers. In our years of gardening we always enjoyed September as a month when everything starts to slow down and some of the urgency associated with keeping the garden at its peak ebbs away.
It will be interesting to know how your lupins perform. We assume that you will give them some protection over winter in the way of a glasshouse or cold frame to prevent too much of the winter wet. The cold will not bother them, providing they do not freeze in their pots.

Your flowers are beautiful. My climbing rose has put out a couple of new flowers, and luckily the lupins haven't been eaten at all really. I think the slugs were too busy elsewhere in the garden. Maybe that's what you should do, plant something they really, really like away from the lupins in the hopes they'll eat them instead!
