Life here is ticking along nicely, I've been doing my usual pottering in the garden now the weather has picked up.
My garden seems to change every year, this year I scattered wild/cottage seeds in April/May so its a mixture of clashing colours and textures, some I'm happy with and some I'm not. Next year I have plans for a more controlled and formal look with grass and box hedging.
Fennel, Calendula and Cosmos, California Poppyand Campanula, Rosemary and a Blueberry bush.

The pond finally cleared after its revamp and the frogs are loving it. They often sitting on the lily pads soaking up the sun.
The strawberries and tomatoes are doing really well this year, I suppose because of all the rain we have had.
You're up and at it early this morning...I'm still sitting up in bed with my sons' laptop on my lap...catching up...have had a very busy couple of weeks travelling and with Aussie visitors. Dropped some off at the station yesterday and my son left early this morning for 3 months around Europe...so finally have the house back and lots of bedding to wash! I love your very English cottage garden...I think you've done a lovely job...you may not be happy with some of it but Nature is ramdom and I do like a garden to reflect this...however I do also love the look of boxed hedges and parterre style gardens....I'm off to visit some of your friends on your sidebar..have a great weekend. ReplyDeleteYour garden looks a deight in a true 'Cottage Garden' style which is, in our experience, far from easy to achieve. We cannot really believe that it is all down to having scattered some seeds earlier in the year. Whatever, it is very pretty and any clashing colours which, to be honest, we are not aware of, do, in any case, add to the interest and serve to 'lift' any scheme from being predictable which this is most certainly not.
You mention a more formal scheme for next year and, of course, we do not know the extent of your garden nor its overall design but, looking at these pictures, we should be very reluctant to change simply for the sake of it.

I love the blue jar and the poppies and the fennel, too. Don't like to eat it, but may grow it for my cutting garden. And, I am definitely going to steal your stone edging for my lily pond. I just have a black plastic liner in the ground. It never occurred to me to EDGE it!! I love it. Fall project number one!! thanks for the idea, and sorry for the theft! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi an urban cottage:- the yellow flowers are 'California poppies' the're very easy to grown, sow them somewhere sunny.. some will winter and get bigger but they also seed themselves and you just get a smaller plant later in the year x
